6-week Directing Intensive - Saturdays, June 16 - July 21

Get practical experience leading actors toward rich, compelling, authentic performances in a variety of media. Participants work from scripts, pilots, web series, or plays. You may bring your own material or work from provided scripted material.

Each week will emphasize a specific point of focus related to the craft of the director:

WEEK ONE - The Director’s Initial Encounter with the Material: Personal & Analytical

WEEK TWO - Learning to Speak the Actor’s Language

WEEK THREE - Working the Scene Beats and Finding Playable Objectives

WEEK FOUR - Finding the Physical Life: Actions & Staging ; How & When to Use Improv

WEEK FIVE - Creating the World of the Story (Detailed Use of Setting, Props, Costumes)

WEEK SIX - Rhythm and Style

In this hands-on workshop, you will work the craft of directing with director-teacher Robert Bailey. Robert has been directing and acting for over thirty years. He teaches directing and acting at USC, and is a director and acting teacher at New York Film Academy.

THE DIRECTORS WORKSHOP

The Directors Workshop gives directors, actors, and writer-directors an opportunity to hone their craft without the pressures of production. A variety of workshops are offered from one-day to six-week to intensive weekends.
